Getting started
with Hanoo.
From an empty Ubuntu server to a live application on your own domain. You need a Hanoo account (the free plan is enough), a clean Ubuntu server and a domain you can point at it.
Before you start
A clean Ubuntu server
Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 or 26.04 LTS, amd64 or arm64, from any provider, with outbound internet access. No inbound management port is needed.
Root access for one command
You run the install command as root once. Hanoo never asks for your root password and never stores SSH private keys.
A domain
To serve your app on your own domain with HTTPS, you need to be able to point a DNS record at the server.
Step by step
01
Create a free account
Sign up at app.hanoo.io. The Free Forever plan covers one server and eight applications; no card required.
02
Connect a server
Open Servers and choose Connect server, then “Connect a server you already run”. You can instead create a DigitalOcean server from the dashboard.
03
Run the install command as root
Copy the one-time command and run it as root on the server. It expires after 10 minutes; if it does, generate a new command. The agent connects out to Hanoo — nothing listens for inbound connections.
04
Review and approve
The server reports what it found. Review the preflight and choose Approve and install. The page updates when the server is connected.
05
Create an application
Open Applications and add an application. Pick Laravel, WordPress, Magento Open Source or Simple PHP from the catalogue, or deploy from a Git repository, then choose the server and create it.
06
Connect your repository
For a Git application, add the read-only deploy key Hanoo shows to your GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket repository, then deploy a branch from the Deployments tab.
07
Add your domain
Point an A record for your domain at the server’s IP address, then add it in the application’s Domains tab. Hanoo checks DNS and issues a Let’s Encrypt certificate.
08
Add what the app needs
Create a MariaDB database, add cron jobs, run queue workers, invite your team or connect an AI assistant over MCP — each from its own tab.
Questions
How long does it take?
Connecting a server takes a few minutes; creating an application and adding a domain take a few more. Certificate issuance waits for your DNS change to be visible.
What if the install command fails?
The terminal you ran it in prints the reason. Nothing is installed until the server enrolls, so fix the problem and generate a new command.
Can an AI assistant do this for me?
Once a server is connected, an assistant connected over MCP can create applications, deploy and roll back for you. See the MCP docs.
